We take a trip to Boyd’s shop to assess the progress of his 1960 C1 Corvette restoration. Ongoing since November 2017, the process is about 50% done — mostly the boring disassembly and sanding parts. Now the fun begins when the Corvette prepares for the paint booth and eventual re-assembly.
Boyd bought the Corvette in 1968 for $800 and has owned it ever since. It’s been painted a half dozen times and undergone at least two minor restorations since. This is the first body-off restoration in 50 years however.
The restoration is really more of a resto-rod. The C1 Vette will be mated to a custom C4 Corvette chassis with modern suspension, brakes, and other components.
