In Episode 03 of the Quest for Perfection on the 1997 BMW E36 M3 sedan, I remove the old, failing, and broken rear rubber window seal trim and replace it with a brand new seal from ECS Tuning. The seal comprises two pieces and takes just needle-nose pliers, plastic body panel pry tools, and some decent patience to perform this DIY garage project.
I show you how to remove your existing seal without breaking the glass, walk through cleaning all of the rain gutters of dirt, soil, and debris, and how to properly install the new rubber window seal parts to create a perfect water-tight fit that will not leak moisture at any point in the future. If you take your time, and do things right the first time, you should never have to perform this project a second time. Do it once, do it right!
